Hydrogen Peroxide – A Miracle Solution?

Who would have thought that Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) would be useful in so many ways. It was my husband who brought this to my attention years ago when our daughter was a baby. She had many accidents on our sofa from spit-ups to spills. Now, we store multiple bottles within our linen closet for those “oopsy” days. I’ve always thought that the primary use for Hydrogen Peroxide was for First Aid — cleaning cuts and bruises as an antiseptic and disinfectant. However, I’ve learned that it’s useful in so many other ways. Below is a list of some:

  • CLEAN/REMOVE STAINS FROM RUGS AND SOFAS (including pet slobber, pee pee accidents, dirt) – poor some on the stain allowing it to soak into the fabric for a bit and then soak it all up with some paper towels. Our sofa is made out of micro fiber, so make sure you test a bit in a hidden spot before going all out. H202 may cause discoloration with certain fabrics.
  • WHITEN CLOTHING – Add 1 cup to your washing machine as a substitute for bleach. It is great for getting rid of blood and grass stains. For blood stains, pour directly on spot, let it sit for a minute, rub & rinse with cold water. For grass stains, mix 1 tsp. of hydrogen peroxide with 2 to 3 drops of ammonia. Rub it on the stain & wash as usual.
  • WRING AROUND THE COLLAR or ARMPIT STAINS – Spray the area with 2 parts peroxide and 1 part liquid detergent. Let it sit for an hour before rinsing.
  • REMOVE STAINS ON GROUT – Spray on grout. Let it sit for a few minutes & scrub with a toothbrush to remove stains or mildew.
  • REMOVE STAINS IN TOILET – Pour 1/2 cup of peroxide into toilet bowel. Allow it to sit for 20 minutes & scrub bowel with toilet brush. Repeat process if necessary.
  • PLANTS – To help their roots, water them with 32 parts water and 1 part peroxide.
  • MITES – Spray with peroxide.
  • MOLD – Spray with peroxide.
  • CLEAN TOOTHBRUSH, MOUTH GUARDS, or DENTURES – soak in peroxide overnight to kill germs
  • EAR INFECTIONS – To relieve, place some drops into the affected ear. When bubbling stops, drain on to tissue.
  • FOOT FUNGUS, CORNS, CALLUSES – Soak in equal parts of peroxide and water every night.
  • MIRRORS – For a no streak clean, spray and wipe away with paper towel or newspaper.
  • CUTTING BOARDS – To kill germs, spray with peroxide after rinsing off your board.
